## The consignment: your agreement with the seller

In Selloff, a consignment records the terms agreed with a consignor: the branch, the member of staff in charge, the vendor commission, a fixed fee per lot, insurance on sold lots (as a percentage of the sale amount) and on unsold lots (as a percentage of the estimate). A consignment can also carry a [broker](https://www.selloff.auction/features/business-referrers.md) and their commission, a representative such as an executor or lawyer, and the campaign that brought the consignor in. Houses that need it can enable a commission per lot, or the flat-rate tax on lots sold above 5,000 used under French rules.

## Receipts and lots

Each deposit of goods is registered as a [receipt](https://www.selloff.auction/features/consignment-receipts.md) under the consignment, and each receipt groups the lots handed over. Lots are described immediately or later, kept in inventory, assigned to any sale and moved to the next one if unsold, while staying attached to their consignor.

## One page per consignment

The consignment page brings together its receipts and lots, extra fees to deduct, statements and payments, and the related activity. It also lists who receives emails for this consignment: by default the consignor's primary address, and the representative's when documents are addressed to them; brokers and any other contact can be switched on. On the contact record, the receipts section lists every deposit and lets you export all consigned lots in one file.

## Keeping consignors informed

For each sale, the consignments page shows how many of every consignor's lots are in the sale and sold, and whether the description list, the list with lot numbers, the results list and the statement have gone out. Print or email them in bulk, then move on to [consignor settlements](https://www.selloff.auction/features/consignor-settlements.md).

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I set a different commission for each consignor or each lot?

Yes. Commission, lot fee and insurance rates are defined on each consignment, with a house default pre-filled for new terms. If you enable per-lot commission, a rate entered on a lot overrides the consignment rate for that lot only.

### How are consignors kept informed about their lots?

From a sale's consignments page you print or email the description list, with or without lot numbers, and the results list to all selected consignors at once. Selloff shows for each consignment which lists have been sent and files every document on the consignor's record.

### What if a consignor gives up unsold lots?

Lots can be marked as renounced by the consignor. Selloff prints a waiver of rights for the receipt, you attach the signed copy to each lot, and the lots can then be returned to inventory and sold on the house's behalf.
