## A pipeline for consignments, not just sales

In an auction house, the business that needs chasing is often on the supply side: the collection seen at a valuation day, the family considering an estate sale, the dealer with a group of lots for the next catalogue. Opportunities give these leads a structure, so they do not live in someone's notebook.

## What an opportunity holds

Each opportunity is linked to a contact and records a name, a description, a collecting area, an estimated value, the campaign it came from and the member of staff responsible. The assignee receives an email when an opportunity is created for them or handed over. Creating an opportunity for a prospect automatically turns them into a client.

Files such as photos or inventories can be dropped onto the opportunity, and a timer lets staff record the time spent on a case.

## Statuses and next steps

Opportunities move through six statuses: prospecting, proposal, won, lost, low value and no value. Closing one as lost or of no value asks for a reason, which is saved in the history, so you can later see why deals were missed.

While an opportunity is open, its next steps are [tasks](https://www.selloff.auction/features/dashboard-tasks.md) with a deadline, type and assignee. The list shows the earliest open task for each opportunity, highlights those that are overdue, and filters by assignee, campaign, deadline range, value and status.

## From opportunity to consignment

When an opportunity is won, link it to the [consignment](https://www.selloff.auction/features/consignor-management.md) it produced. The value then counts in your statistics, and the chain from campaign to opportunity to lots in the sale stays visible. Each user also sees their own opportunities by status on the dashboard.

## Frequently asked questions

### What counts as an opportunity in an auction house?

Typically a potential consignment: a collection offered after a valuation day, an estate to be sold, a collector thinking about parting with a group of lots. In Selloff, each opportunity is attached to a contact and a collecting area, carries an estimated value and belongs to one member of staff.

### How do I make sure follow-ups are not forgotten?

Each next step is a task with a deadline and an assignee. The opportunity list shows the earliest open task for every opportunity and can show only overdue ones, and assignees see their tasks on the dashboard and in a daily email digest.

### Can I see which campaigns bring in consignments?

Yes. An opportunity can record the campaign it came from, and a won opportunity can be linked to the consignment it produced. The opportunity list can be filtered by campaign.
