## Definition

A person or company that introduces consignors to an auction house in return for a commission, usually a share of the seller's commission on the lots they bring in.

Referrers may be dealers, lawyers, estate agents or collectors with a wide network. Their commission must be calculated reliably and is usually paid once the sale has been settled.

In Selloff, a broker can be linked to each consignment with a commission percentage, and the broker commission report lists the amounts due per consignment.
