## Challenges

- **Appraisals that become consignments** — Valuation days and house visits produce appraisals, some of which turn into consignments. Selloff records appraisals with their items and can bring appraised items into lots without re-typing.
- **Very different objects in one sale** — Paintings, furniture, silver, jewellery and Asian art can share the same catalogue. Taxonomies, tags and renameable fields let each department describe its lots properly.
- **Estates and representatives** — Estates are often handled by an heir, an executor or a notary. A consignment can name a representative, to whom communications are addressed.
- **Commissions, VAT and settlements** — Seller terms vary from one consignment, or one lot, to the next. Selloff applies per-lot commissions and VAT types, and settles consignors from the paid invoices.

## Built for fine art and antiques auction houses

A general or fine art auction house handles a wide range of objects, clients and paperwork: valuations, estates, consignment receipts, catalogues, sale-room bidding, invoices and settlements. Selloff links these steps so that information entered once is reused throughout.

## From appraisal to consignment

[Appraisals](https://www.selloff.auction/features/appraisals.md) made on valuation days or at a client's home are recorded in Selloff with their items, which can then be brought into lots without re-typing when the client decides to sell. For [estates](https://www.selloff.auction/features/estates-successions.md), a consignment can name a representative, such as an executor or notary, to whom communications are sent. Each consignor has a single record with all receipts, lots and settlements ([consignor management](https://www.selloff.auction/features/consignor-management.md)).

## Describing and selling

Taxonomies and tags adapt the lot record to each department, and every lot carries its estimates, printed estimate and reserve ([estimates & reserves](https://www.selloff.auction/features/estimates-reserves.md)). Catalogues can be exported to [Drouot](https://www.selloff.auction/integrations/drouot.md) and [Interenchères](https://www.selloff.auction/integrations/interencheres.md), and the Drouot registrations and results imported back. During a [live sale](https://www.selloff.auction/features/live-auctions.md), absentee and phone bids sit in the auctioneer's book, and online bidders can follow through [Redpoint Live Auction](https://www.selloff.auction/integrations/redpoint-live-auction.md).

## After the sale

Buyers are invoiced with buyer's premium and VAT, and can pay online. Commissions can differ per lot, and [consignor settlements](https://www.selloff.auction/features/consignor-settlements.md) are produced from the paid invoices. Outgoing payments to consignors can be exported as an e-banking payment file.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can Selloff export my catalogue to Drouot and Interenchères?

Yes. From the catalogue you export a Drouot XLSX file or an Interenchères XML file in the format each platform expects. For Drouot, Selloff also imports the registered bidders and the results of the sale.

### Can each lot have its own seller commission?

Yes. When the option is enabled, a commission set on a lot replaces the default commission of the consignment. The consignor settlement then uses the right rate for each lot.

### Do you support live sales with online bidders?

Yes. Selloff records room, phone and absentee bids during the sale and connects to Redpoint Live Auction for online bidders, who log in with their client account. Hammer prices are written back to Selloff as the sale goes on.
