## What the Mailchimp integration does

Mailchimp is an email marketing platform. Selloff keeps it supplied with the right contacts, so that your sale announcements and newsletters reach clients who asked for them, grouped by what they collect.

## How it works

- **Subscriptions.** When an email address on a client record is subscribed to marketing emails, Selloff adds it to your Mailchimp audience. With double opt-in enabled, the client first receives a confirmation link, valid for the time you set.
- **Merge fields.** Selloff sends the first name, last name, language, country and the client's collecting areas. When one of these changes in Selloff, Mailchimp is updated. The language and country choices in Mailchimp are kept in line with Selloff every night.
- **Campaign segments.** Build the recipient list of a campaign in Selloff, for example from a [smart list](https://www.selloff.auction/features/segmentation-smart-lists.md) of clients interested in a category. One click creates a static segment in Mailchimp with the subscribed addresses of that list, ready for your email.
- **Feedback.** Mailchimp webhooks report unsubscribes, subscriptions and profile changes back to Selloff, so the client record stays accurate.

Setup takes an API key and the ID of the Mailchimp audience to sync with. Only one marketing email service is active at a time. See also [email campaigns](https://www.selloff.auction/features/email-campaigns.md).

## Frequently asked questions

### Where do I design and send the newsletter?

In Mailchimp. Selloff decides who receives it: you build the recipient list in a Selloff campaign, push it to Mailchimp as a static segment, then create and send the email to that segment in Mailchimp.

### What happens when a client unsubscribes in Mailchimp?

Mailchimp notifies Selloff through a webhook and the email address is marked as unsubscribed on the client record. It is then left out of the segments you push for later campaigns.
