## What the Stripe integration does

Stripe is an international online payment provider that processes card payments. In Selloff, Stripe is set up as an online payment gateway: clients pay invoices by card on Stripe's payment page, and the payment comes back to Selloff for accounting.

## How a payment works

1. Each invoice has a payment link, which can be printed on the invoice or included in the email that sends it.
2. The link opens a Selloff checkout page with the amount, the reference and the payment methods available for the invoice's branch and currency.
3. When the client chooses Stripe, Selloff records a pending online payment and hands over to Stripe to take the card payment.
4. The client returns to a Selloff confirmation page and the online payment is marked as paid.
5. In **Accounting › Online payments**, your accountant accounts the payment: Selloff books it to the account set for the gateway and applies it to the invoice.

## Settings

Gateways are configured per branch and currency, with the name and logo shown to clients and the account to book payments to. You can pass a percentage surcharge or a fixed fee on to the client; it is shown on the checkout page before payment. Bank transfer instructions can be offered as an alternative. Payment links can also be created for part of an invoice or for bidder deposits.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I pass Stripe card fees on to the buyer?

Yes. Each payment gateway can carry a percentage surcharge and a fixed fee. Selloff adds them to the amount on the checkout page, so the client sees the total before paying and you receive the invoice amount.

### Is an online payment booked automatically in the accounts?

The online payment is marked as paid as soon as the client completes it. Your accountant then accounts it from the online payments list: Selloff creates the payment on the gateway’s account and applies it to the invoice, which keeps a human check on every booking.
