Content Delivery Network

What the CDN integration does

A content delivery network (CDN) keeps copies of files on servers close to your visitors. For an auction house, the heaviest files are lot photos: a catalogue can hold thousands of them, viewed by bidders around the world in the days before a sale.

Selloff lets you serve all public images, such as lot photos, from the CDN of your choice. Once the CDN address is set, every public image link Selloff hands out points to the CDN instead of to Selloff itself. This covers the images shown on your website through the Selloff API, and any other place where Selloff provides public image links.

How it works

  1. Create a pull zone (or equivalent) with your CDN provider, using the Selloff public images address as origin. Selloff shows that address in Settings › Integrations › CDN.
  2. Enter the CDN address in the same place.
  3. From then on, public image URLs are rewritten to the CDN address. The CDN fetches each image from Selloff the first time it is requested and serves it from its cache afterwards.

Nothing changes for your team: photos are still imported and checked in Selloff. Private files, such as invoices or signed documents, are never served through the CDN.

Frequently asked questions

Which CDN providers can I use?

Any CDN that can fetch files from an origin URL. In Selloff you enter your CDN address; the CDN itself is configured to fetch from your Selloff public images address, which Selloff displays under the field.

Does the CDN change how I upload photos?

No. Photos are uploaded, named and checked in Selloff as usual. Only the address from which public images are delivered changes. Documents such as invoices or signed receipts are not concerned.
